10-acre wildfire burns in Candler, 0% contained

CANDLER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Fire crews were responding Saturday afternoon to a wildfire burning in the Candler community of Buncombe County, according to state officials.

The fire was reported in the North Luther Road area, west of Asheville. Social media posts from witnesses described heavy smoke in the area as crews worked to assess the situation.

According to the North Carolina Forest Service wildfire map, the blaze was listed as active as of 3:46 p.m. Saturday. The agency estimated the fire had burned about 10 acres and was 0 percent contained.

No information was immediately available about injuries, evacuations or the cause of the fire. Officials have not said how many personnel are on scene.
