APD seeking information about West Asheville motorcycle accident

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist this morning in West Asheville.

At approximately 5:49 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, APD officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Smokey Park Highway at the I-40 West on-ramp.

The preliminary investigation indicatesd that a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Smokey Park Highway collided with a Jeep Liberty that was traveling eastbound and turning left onto the I-40 West on-ramp. The motorcyclist was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep Liberty remained on scene.

The roadway was closed for several hours while officers cleared the scene and gathered evidence. The collision is currently under investigation.
