Asheville police arrest suspect in east Asheville shooting

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a shooting at an east Asheville apartment complex that left two people injured, including one person who remains in critical condition.

Police said detectives spent Friday following leads tied to the May 14 shooting at Spruce Hill Apartments and eventually identified a residence in east Asheville connected to the case. Evidence recovered during the investigation led officers to charge 24-year-old Acesa Ezekiel Jackson on Friday evening.

Investigators said Jackson was the man described as wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt and red pants when gunfire was opened on the occupants of a vehicle. Two people suffered gunshot wounds in the incident.

Jackson faces multiple felony charges, including discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle causing serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, five counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and discharging a weapon into an occupied building.

Authorities said Jackson was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and is being held without bond.

The Asheville Police Department thanked the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Task Force for assisting with the investigation and arrest.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
