ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Violent crime, homicides and traffic deaths all declined in Asheville in 2025, according to year-end data released by the Asheville Police Department, while property crime saw a modest increase.

Police reported 451 violent crimes last year, a 24 percent decrease from 2024. The category includes homicide, aggravated assault, rape and robbery and reflects 145 fewer incidents than the previous year.

Homicides dropped sharply, with six reported in 2025 — a 54 percent decrease, or seven fewer cases, compared with 2024, police said.

Traffic fatalities also declined, falling to 15 deaths in 2025. That marks a 35 percent decrease, or eight fewer fatalities, from the year before.

Property crime rose slightly, with 4,038 incidents reported in 2025, a 10 percent increase over 2024. Police officials attributed much of that increase to improved reporting of shoplifting and stronger community engagement.

“As we begin 2026, we want to share an overview of crime and safety trends in Asheville from last year,” the department said in a statement, emphasizing a continued commitment to transparency and collaboration with the community to improve public safety.
