ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The city of Asheville is warning downtown parking customers not to scan unauthorized QR code stickers that were recently found on parking meters along Biltmore Avenue.

City officials said the stickers directed users to a fraudulent website that requested credit card information. The city has removed several of the stickers and emphasized that it does not use QR codes for parking payments.

Customers should continue to pay for parking at the meter, through the text-to-pay option or by using the Flowbird app, according to the city.

Anyone who spots a QR code sticker on a parking meter is asked to report it by emailing parking@ashevillenc.gov or calling 828-259-5792.
