ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — This Saturday, North Asheville comic book and collectible shop Comic Envy will participate in Local Comic Shop Day, a national event which celebrates the community of brick-and-mortar comic shops with a day of sales and superheroes.

LCSD will be held at Comic Envy from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, 333 Merrimon Ave.

According to a Comic Envy press release, LCSD “highlights the unique role comic book shops play as vital ‘third spaces’ — welcoming places outside of home and work where people come together to connect, share interests and build community.”

The free-to-attend Comic Envy event will feature music, sketches and comic book trivia, with costumes and conversation encouraged.

For collectors, there will be a sale on statues, glassware, independent back issues, which are titles published by Image, Dark Horse or other indie comic labels, as well as ratio variants, or special comic covers offered with a certain number of units ordered. There will also be special LCSD variant covers on sale for “Spider-Man ’94” #1 and “EC Catacombs of Torment” #1.

Comic Envy owner Allison Jenkins.

“LCSD is a celebration of everything that makes your local comic shop the weird and wonderful place you need it to be, and we’re excited to share it with our community and to thank our customers for being so very awesome all year,” said Comic Envy owner Allison Jenkins in the release.
