CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Chimney Rock Post Office will reopen later this month, marking a significant step in the village’s recovery from Tropical Storm Helene, officials said.

The U.S. Postal Service facility at 366 Main St. is scheduled to reopen at noon Monday, Feb. 23, and will resume regular weekday hours from noon to 4 p.m., according to a Feb. 13 letter from a USPS government relations representative to U.S. Rep. Tim Moore.

The post office will provide full retail services and post office box access.

The Chimney Rock location was among numerous USPS facilities damaged by Helene in October 2024. The damage forced retail operations to temporarily relocate to the Lake Lure Post Office, about two miles away.

During the closure, post office box customers in Chimney Rock were able to access their mail at the Lake Lure location. Because the Chimney Rock branch is not a carrier delivery unit, home mail delivery in the area was not disrupted. The Lake Lure Post Office continued carrier delivery service on established routes and will maintain those routes after the Chimney Rock branch reopens, according to the letter.

In a social media post, Chimney Rock Village officials called the reopening “another significant milestone” in the community’s recovery efforts and thanked the Postal Service and Moore for their support.

Moore said he had written to Postmaster General David Steiner on Feb. 2 seeking an update on the facility’s status. He announced Feb. 13 that the Postal Service had confirmed the reopening date, calling it “a huge win for the people of Chimney Rock who have gone without a post office” since the storm.

Post office box customers may resume receiving mail at the Chimney Rock location once it reopens, officials said.
