ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Is your family prepared for the next disaster? The city of Asheville wants to help. Next week, an emergency kit workshop will be held for residents by the Asheville Fire Department and Asheville Sustainability Department.

The Emergency Preparedness Workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 George Washington Carver Ave.

“When emergencies strike, every second counts. Having a well-stocked emergency kit readily available can make all the difference in ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones. Your kit should be comprehensive and tailored to the unique needs of your household,” the city wrote in a press release.

What to expect at the Emergency Preparedness Workshop

According to the press release, the workshop will provide instruction on how to “build resilience for your family by learning about disaster risks and what you should have in an emergency kit,” as well as covering the basics of the first 72 hours after a disaster.

After learning about emergency kits, there will be an opportunity to build one. Emergency kit supplies, including plastic storage totes, battery packs, weather radios and first aid kits, will be given away first-come, first-served at the event. There will also be an emergency kit raffle, as well as pizza served for workshop participants.

Register for the workshop here or by scanning this QR Code.
