ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A cold front is moving east across Western North Carolina, bringing a shift to cooler and drier conditions that forecasters say will linger through the end of the month.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg said the front will usher in below-normal temperatures and lower humidity levels, a noticeable change after recent muggy days.

Monday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 78 degrees and a northwest breeze. Overnight lows will dip to around 54 under mostly cloudy skies.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s, followed by a cooler night with temperatures falling into the upper 40s. Sunshine will continue Wednesday with similar highs near 77.

By Thursday, skies will turn mostly cloudy, and a slight chance of showers is possible late that night into early Friday. Highs are expected to remain steady in the upper 70s through the week, with overnight lows in the 50s.

The weather service said the cooler, drier air mass will likely persist into early September.
