SYLVA, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Jackson County Public Schools shut down its districtwide network and canceled classes for students Tuesday after a cybersecurity issue was detected over the weekend, the district announced.

Officials said there is no evidence that any student or staff data was accessed, but the full network shutdown is necessary to ensure systems are secure. Internet, Wi-Fi, phones and all network services will remain offline while the district investigates and restores operations.

Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, Nov. 25. It will be an optional workday for staff.

“We know this may cause inconvenience for families, and we appreciate your patience and understanding,” the district said in a statement. “Our team is working diligently to confirm that all information remains secure and to restore services as quickly as possible.”
