ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – Book worms in Western North Carolina may find solace in an ever-growing list of Hurricane Helene related books available for purchase. 

After the events of the storm, it was only natural for artists to express their emotions through the art form that appealed to them most. Whether it was writing, drawing, painting, sculpting or something else, creatives in the Asheville area used their talents to make something beautiful from the disaster surrounding them.

Author: Emma M. Churchman

As a trauma chaplain, Churchman was well equipped to help her community of Gerton grieve the storm. Her work decries laying on a therapist’s couch for healing, saying we need to learn to heal from trauma in real time.

The Day the Mountains Cried 

Author: Lynda H. Smith 

Price: $7.99 for Kindle, $16.99 for Paperback 

The Day the Mountains Cried is a firsthand account from a Hurricane Helene survivor in Burnsville. Smith uses her book to recount the community building she saw during the time of peril. 

Mountain Made: A Child’s TRUE Account of Hurricane Helene 

Author: Alyssa Hughes 

Price: $13.99 for Paperback 

For a completely different audience than the other books on this list, Mountain Made is about a 6-year-old and written for an adolescent audience, dealing with the trauma of the storm in a kid-friendly way. 

Hurricane Helene Art Collection Book 

Artist: Kira Bursky 

Price: $60 for Hardcover 

Every day during October, Bursky drew one piece to depict an aspect of the storm. After her drawings went viral on Reddit, made a look book to allow people to experience her artwork in a tangible way.
