ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A send-off celebration for the Great Mother March is scheduled for March 21 at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville.

The event is set for 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will mark the start of a multi-week pilgrimage walk from Asheville to Washington, D.C.

Organizers say the Great Mother March is a community-driven movement focused on promoting balance, compassion and environmental awareness. The march begins on the spring equinox and will conclude on Earth Day in the nation’s capital.

Participants describe the journey as a gender-inclusive pilgrimage intended to honor the Earth and raise awareness about planetary well-being.

The send-off event will include music, movement, prayer and community gatherings designed to celebrate and encourage those taking part in the walk to Washington.

Organizers are also seeking donations to help cover the cost of the event and are offering opportunities for vendors and nonprofits to reserve tables during the gathering. Click here to learn more.
