ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – April Fools’ Day is a great opportunity to bring a little fun and laughter to the workplace. Whether you are looking to pull off a classic gag or something more sophisticated, there are plenty of harmless ways to surprise your coworkers without crossing any lines. Here are some lighthearted and office-friendly pranks to try this April 1st.

But before you begin, remember pranks can either be a great way to bond with colleagues and add humor to the office or can cause unnecessary tension. Make sure your plans avoid damaging company property, disrupting work and steer clear of sensitive subjects. The goal should be to create fun moments that everyone can enjoy.

Sticky Note Overload

For a harmless but hilarious prank, cover your coworker’s desk with sticky notes. Be sure to add a little extra flair by filling their computer screen, chair and their keyboard with the colorful squares. Although time-consuming, it is guaranteed to give your office buddy a chuckle when they sit down for their morning routine. If you want to go the extra mile, make a message or silly shape using the notes.

Mouse Trickery

If your coworker uses a mouse, place a small piece of opaque tape over the sensor on the bottom. This will prevent the mouse from working properly, causing confusion and frustration. When they try to move the cursor and it does not respond, they will likely spend a few minutes trying to figure out what went wrong. After a brief moment of panic, they will realize it is all in good fun. Add a bit of flair by drawing or writing a message on the piece of tape.

Fake Meeting Invite

Send a calendar invite for an important, albeit entirely fake, meeting to a coworker. Make it sound urgent, but do not add any real details in the description. You can even choose a time during lunch when your coworker is most likely to be out of the office. When they see the meeting pop up on their schedule, they will wonder what it’s all about. It is a harmless way to throw them for a loop and can lead to some amusing reactions.

Fake Bug

One of the easiest and most harmless pranks involves fake insects. A plastic spider or cockroach placed on a coworker’s desk or inside a drawer can evoke a quick scare. The key here is to choose a bug that is easily identifiable as fake. It is a simple trick that does not involve any damage to property or people, making it a safe bet for an office setting.

Mismatched Office Supplies

Swap out a few office supplies at your coworker’s workstation. For example, replace their pens with ones that have different ink colors or exchange their stapler with a smaller, novelty-sized one. Subtle changes like these may not be immediately noticed, making the gag run longer. There will be plenty of time for you to catch their face as they try to make sense of the different colored sticky notes you swapped theirs for.

The Color Changing Drink

A harmless prank involves using a few drops of food coloring. Add some food coloring to the bottom of a colleague’s water cup and watch their surprise when the liquid unexpectedly changes color as they drink. This prank works best with light-colored beverages like water or lemonade, and it is easy to clean up afterward.
