MARSHALL, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Following the catastrophic damage suffered by Marshall during Hurricane Helene, the town has been looking to rebuild or relocate many buildings in its downtown area. These assessments include Marshall Town Hall, which officials have announced will be demolished and reconstructed elsewhere.

The Town Hall is currently located at 180 S Main St., an area of Marshall heavily impacted by the storm due to flooding from the nearby French Broad River.

“The current town hall in its location suffered pretty significant damage, and so, the town is going to be working through the process of demolition on that building. That should be started sometime within the next few weeks,” said Marshall Town Administrator Ryan Cody. “Then, the town aldermen have voted to move forward looking with an architect to determine what the next location of the Town Hall should be.”

However, in all likelihood, the new Town Hall will not move too far away.

“It is the desire of the alderman and the mayor to locate Town Hall back in downtown Marshall,” Cody said.

In addition to the Town Hall, the Madison County Courthouse and Marshall Volunteer Fire Station are also in states of transition. More information about their next steps will be released in the weeks to come.
