ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Increasing clouds and rain chances late Friday and into Saturday could provide some relief for firefighters battling wildfires around the Asheville area.

Shortly before noon Friday, Swannanoa Fire & Rescue said a wildfire in the Lytle Cove area was 100 percent contained and 80 percent controlled. Officials said crews continue mop-up operations inside the fire line. No structures are threatened, and no evacuations have been ordered.

In Rutherford County, Lake Lure officials said the Shumont Mountain Fire has burned a little more than 20 acres. Firefighters have achieved just over 50 percent containment. No injuries have been reported, no structures are involved, and no evacuations have been necessary. Multiple crews remain on scene working to contain the fire.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg said a low-pressure system moving across the region will bring increasing clouds Friday, with rain developing overnight and continuing into early Saturday. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with additional lighter showers possible Saturday morning.

Temperatures are expected to remain mild, with highs near 57 Friday and cooler conditions developing Saturday. Dry and warmer weather is forecast to return Sunday and persist into early next week.

The weather service also cautioned drivers to use care when rain begins after a prolonged dry period, as oil and debris can make roadways especially slick.
