ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The remaining bus stops along Swannanoa River Road will resume service Sunday, May 4, Asheville officials said.

The service restoration follows the completion of repairs by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the official reopening of Swannanoa River Road. With the road now accessible, Asheville Rides Transit will reintegrate the affected stops into its route network.

This marks a significant milestone in Asheville’s recovery from Tropical Storm Helene, as these are the final bus stops to reopen following the storm’s extensive damage.

“We’re grateful for the patience of our riders and the hard work of NCDOT in restoring this vital corridor,” Transportation Director Ashley Haire said in a news release. “Bringing these bus stops back online is a key step in reconnecting communities impacted by the storm.”

Bus shelters along this section of Swannanoa River Road will also be restored, though that work will follow a separate timeline. The city will continue to share updates as more details become available.
