OLD FORT, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A crash involving a truck pulling a trailer has closed two lanes of Interstate 40 westbound on Old Fort Mountain, slowing traffic Monday afternoon.

According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, the right two lanes of I-40 westbound are closed just past Exit 73 in McDowell County because of the crash.

Photos and reports shared on social media showed the truck and trailer on fire near the 68-mile marker as it climbed Old Fort Mountain toward Black Mountain. Firefighters responded to the scene and were working to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries have been reported, and officials have not released details about what caused the crash.

Drivers traveling westbound through the area should expect delays and consider allowing extra travel time while emergency crews clear the scene.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
