ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Looking for a few food goals to aim for in 2026? Give these suggestions a shot.

1. Try new food this year

Introducing new foods into your diet can be a fun way to experience other cultures, new flavors and even potential health benefits. Chana masala, for instance, a North Indian dish made from chickpeas and tomatoes, can be a terrific source of folate, iron, fiber and vitamin B, in addition to tasting delicious.

2. Trade fast food for local eats

While getting fast food is often convenient, it can be pricy, in addition to the harmful sugar, salt, saturated or trans fats and over-processed, often-frozen ingredients used in most fast food meals. As a foodie city, Asheville has many great options for quick, local meals. If you are craving Taco Bell, try White Duck Taco. If you are yearning for a burger, stop by Farm Burger. Thinking about ordering a pizza? Standard Pizza Company makes delicious pies quick. Trading fast food for dining out at local restaurants a couple times a month can make a major impact in your body and the local economy.

3. Make your own coffee

Taking the time to grind beans and make coffee at home can be an excellent way to save money, improve freshness and control what goes in your morning java. Brewing coffee at home can be a mindful morning ritual, in addition to a great source of antioxidants, good smells and fewer calories.
