WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Weaverville residents took to social media Thursday night after smoke was seen off Monticello Road.

Understandably, folks are worried after wildfires have burned thousands of acres in the Carolinas during the past week.

According to a Facebook post from French Broad Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the smoke Weaverville residents were seeing was from a fire at the Buncombe County landfill.

Efforts to reach Buncombe County officials for confirmation were unsuccessful.
