UPDATE: Asheville shooting suspect arrested

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting early Monday morning on Fairview Road.

Officers responded around 7:50 a.m. to a business near the 800 block of Fairview Road after reports of a shooting. A woman was found with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Mission Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

Police said the suspect, Kevin Mitchell Hyatt, 45, fled the scene before officers arrived. Later Monday, Asheville Police Department detectives located Hyatt and took him into custody.

Hyatt has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and stalking. Police said additional charges may be forthcoming.

The investigation remains ongoing.
